Still American
Jeanette Mundt
Feb27Aug22020

Still American’s serialized reproductions exist, semi-altered, in a synergy of transference, from abstraction to figuration and back again. A reordering of collective recollection through a composite of styles and techniques, Mundt takes ownership and mastery of heavily utilized motifs in the history of painting: Landscape, Nude, Self-Portrait, then sets them ablaze. Fire itself, Mundt notes, is an elusive element to perfect, and a flicker of painter’s bravado. And within this unsettling production and reproduction of fire, Mundt establishes her narrative control.
