Opens May72025
Champ Lacombe and Company Gallery proudly presents a joint booth featuring the paintings of Bulgarian artist Stefania Batoeva. Created specifically for this presentation, these works encapsulate the artist's evolving practice, merging autobiographical elements with imaginative narratives to craft a deeply personal visual language. The pieces range from vigorous, expressive gestures to delicate, layered forms, forming a non-linear narrative that probes the complexity of intimacy—its triumphs, tensions, and fractures.
Batoeva's compositions possess a haunting symbolism, often echoing her own image intertwined with figures from her life, while fragments of landscapes slip into the abstract, united by an emotional charge. In layered dimensions, Batoeva blurs the line between the tangible and intangible, drawing viewers into a realm of implied presences where subjects are both isolated and subtly influenced by unseen forces. We encounter moments suspended between solitude and companionship—a lone figure in a bedroom, shadowed by an ephemeral memory; expectation hangs heavy, like a clouded sky. These intricate compositions reveal an intimacy that is vulnerable yet opaque, inviting us to linger, question, and reflect on our own emotional landscapes within Batoeva's constructed world.
