On the occasion of Jeanette Mundt’s solo exhibition, Batshit, on view at Company through April 22, the gallery presents a series of films made by Mundt with collaborator, David Mramor. The three films will be on view in the gallery’s downstairs space through the remainder of Mundt’s show.

In A Failed Killing (2018), the pair used traveling together as an opportunity to film. Casting friends, students, and themselves as actors, Mundt and Mramor navigate dialogue, costuming, lighting, location scouting, directing and editing. A Failed Killing follows the stagnant love affair of two romantics, who in the end find themselves alone. Borrowing from Arthur Miller’s The Crucible the film ends in a staged rehearsal, which eventually leads to a sacred burning.

AISSUR (2020) was built using the tools Mramor and Mundt learned by making their first film. The script was written and executed in collaboration with artist Mariangela Ciccarello and touches upon themes of love, climate change, and subordination. Loosely based on Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky ‘s Swan Lake, AISSUR follows the leader of a cult through events on his birthday that will alter his life forever.

In Still American (2023) Mramor and Mundt rely on elements of performance art rather than cinematic narrative. It functions as a documentation of both Mundt’s last exhibition at Company, Still American, and a performance by Mundt and Mramor in the gallery during the five months it was closed due to the lockdown in 2020. Incorporating elements of monologue, song, movement, and costume, they focus on current events as well as the time period when Mundt was growing up abroad in Switzerland. The artists piece together the past, present, and future in an unstable world.

Mramor and Mundt formed Marble Mouth Productions in 2022, a company that googles the unknown. They plan to collaborate on more films in the future.
