FIELD OF FEELS

When I perform

I dance with the world that moves through us.

I dance against the world that is imposed on us.

I dance that which I know but do not have words for.

The movement is the violence and the embrace

The movement is a bouquet of terror and beauty

in golds, reds, pinks and blues

The movement is my grief and our triumph

The movement is a field of feels and is a practice

The practice is always a move towards love.

– Tosh Basco

Over the past decade, Tosh Basco worked primarily as a movement-based performer, investigating modes of improvisation in dance, theater, and performance art. Basco has carved out a space in the realm of performance where desire, memory, and survival are inscribed on the body in gestures of becoming. In FIELD OF FEELS, her second solo show with Company Gallery, Basco presents a new body of work featuring paintings.

Through visceral explorations of the thresholds of media, poetry, and ritual, FIELD OF FEELS, invites us to navigate the invisible threads that bind us together and pull us apart. Dancing at the edges of the unknown and unspeakable, the remembered and felt, there is an almost sensorial vision lying at the heart of this new series. Likewise, the paintings transcend mere transcription or documentation of movement, instead functioning as indexes, shadows, auras, and gestures.

Basco maps the invisible contours of our experiences, which are increasingly mediated and manipulated by algorithmic twists in our passage through time. Her works whisper to us through impenetrable walls, piercing the surface of reality to share breath and reminding us that the most profound truths are often those we cannot fully see.
