Drawing on Baroque and viceregal painting traditions, Sergio Miguel explores the tensions between beauty, violence, and desire. Through symbolic figuration and carefully staged tableaux, his paintings transfigure historical iconography within a contemporary, transnational context, where bodies are unsettled, distorted, and held in tension between devotion and rupture.

Miguel received his B.A. in Art History from the University of California, San Diego in 2014 and his M.F.A. in Studio Art from Columbia University in 2021. He lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
