Reba Maybury is an artist, writer, and political dominatrix, sometimes working under the name Mistress Rebecca. Her work explores the tension between her perceived strength as an object of transactional fantasy and how, through the reality of sex work and gender, she attempts to turn this power into something tangible. Much of her art practice is physically created by her submissives under her direction. Her publications include Dining with Humpty Dumpty (2017), Faster than an erection (2021 and 2024), From Paris With Love (2024), and Pervert or Detective?, with Lucy McKenzie (2025). Themes of capital, labor, sexuality, female perversion, desire, banality, pleasure, and bureaucracy as torture and humiliation are essential to her practice.

Her solo and two-person exhibitions include I Come in Peace, Secession, Vienna (2026), and exhibitions at O—Overgaden, Copenhagen (2025); Ca’Buccari, Venice (2025); LC Queisser, Tbilisi (2025); SIMIAN, Copenhagen (2024); Company Gallery, New York (2024); MACRO, Rome (2021); HFKD, Holstebro (2021); LUMA Westbau, Zürich (2019); and Arcadia Missa, London (2018). She has participated in group exhibitions at Kunstmuseum St.Gallen, St. Gallen (2026); Kölnischer Kunstverein, Cologne (2026); Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam (2026); MIT List Visual Arts Center, Cambridge, Massachusetts (2026); Malmö Konstmuseum, Malmö (2024); Frac Nouvelle-Aquitaine MÉCA, Bordeaux (2023); Kunsthal Charlottenborg, Copenhagen (2020); the Institute of Contemporary Arts, London (2019); and the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw (2019). Maybury has also participated in readings, talks and discussions at Ca’Buccari, Venice; After8 Books, Paris; Art Hub Copenhagen; Tate Britain, London; Camden Art Centre, London; and Bridget Donahue, New York. Her work is held in the collection of the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam. She teaches critical thinking within the MA Fashion program at Central Saint Martins, London, and has taught at HEAD, Geneva; the University of Applied Arts, Vienna; Kunstakademie Düsseldorf; and the Copenhagen Art Academy’s Sculpture School.
