Joanne Robertson’s large-scale paintings evoke a rhythm of process and improvisation that connects directly to the artist’s intertwined music practice. Her layered approach to painting creates depth and movement, the brushstrokes an extension of the artist’s hand as she moves across the canvas with fluid precision. Born in Manchester, UK in 1979, Robertson is based in Glasgow.

Her solo and two-person exhibitions include Bathtub at Edouard Montassut, Paris (2026); Field at Company Gallery, New York (2024); Fingerblades, with Rachal Bradley, at Gregor Staiger, Milan (2022); Night at Sandy Brown, Berlin (2022); Feels at Edouard Montassut, Paris (2021); and Poppies, with Max Brand, at the Gallery of Modern Art, Glasgow (2016 – 2017). Other solo exhibitions include those at Mother Culture, Berlin (2020); Gallery Malmo, Edinburgh (2020); and Svetlana, New York (2019). Selected group exhibitions include those at Champ Lacombe, Biarritz; Triest, New York; Kunsthal Charlottenborg, Copenhagen; Svetlana, New York; Fri Art Kunsthalle, Fribourg; White Columns, New York; Apalazzo Gallery, Brescia; and the Institute of Contemporary Arts, London. Her work is held in the Deutsche Bank Collection and Sammlung Sanders, Germany.
